There is nothing to love at that point though. They are a genetic dead end and using more time and resources on them diminishes your chances of having a viable genetic legacy. You know, the whole point of existence

However we as humans(depending on which type we are talking about) in general are not wired to abandon off spring we have few children so we are wired to value them highly even if they are broken. Modern society has allowed this to be taken to and extreme nature never intended. Example an autistic kid with out modern society would just have died and parental choice to abandon the offspring would never have been needed.

Autism also gives extra mental abilities (such as maths, creativity...). It is not a trait that can be considered necessary on an evolutionary stand point.

Emotions I assume. Just read an article posted by crying about Japan sterilizing its retarded and crippled population so they don't make more. This is a sensible and humane thing to do. Waste of resources as it's cheaper to kill them but it's a good half measure.

The point of marriage and existence is to have children in a stable environment. I am not sterile so I will never confront that issue. But if I was I would leave my wife so she could find someone to have kids with.

Whether or not the child is gay or straight is no guarantee your genetic legacy will continue, or deadend. The child could be sterile, get a vasectomy (like I did), breed with a blackie, die before reproducing, or many other possibilities. Gays have been known to have the need to breed, and either fucked a lesbo or donated sperm to get a baby, so being gay is no guarantee you won't get your grandkid. Parents that demand their kid be a carbon copy, follow in their chosen career, embrace their religion, like what they like, and so on, is little different from the cameljockeys treating their kids like chattel...or doing their 'honor killings'. Children are not toys, possessions, cattle, slaves, etc. Want a clone? Hire a mad scientist!

Depending on who you ask, the purpose of life isn't just to procreate. Perhaps their contribution would be zero point energy, who knows? If you take just a shallow view of the situation, you might start executing seniors and cultivating muslims because they breed like rabbits.

There is some evolutionary theory about gay people being advantageous - for example a gay uncle assisting with his sibling's family.
