Slavery is still a thing. Like in the past a slave owner can be of any race. A blond with blue eyes sells for premium I hear. Its just not legal. Aka its fine for the powers that be provided they dont rock the boat.
As for stopping its legality yeah youre right. Slavery was a thing for likely every race in history long before the USA was founded and in return for Lincoln going through the self harming process of ending that future generations slander him and destroy things meant to honor him and his deeds.
