There are so many more effective and proven ways than 12-step cults.
But I am not an alcoholic, I am a drunk. Alcoholics go to meetings, I go to parties.
Fun fact. The founder of AA began the program with a focus on proper nutrition as a replacement for alcoholism, believing it to be a result of deficiencies. Then it was taken over, the nutritional education thrown out, and replaced with mantras about hope, and the addition of free donuts and coffee.
Imagine if AA was a nutrition and fitness club and courts mandated alcoholics to attend for 6 months.
I disagree, having read the book. It was labeled a “spiritual malady” by the founders.
I'm on the "fuck you I quit" method. The whole apologizing thing felt awkward to me. The worst I ever did to anyone drunk is be lazy. well, I don't have any children, so if you are counting on me for something fuck you. I have a job, but I always did that job sober. The only person with a right to count on me is my girlfriend (life partner), and Lord knows I apologize to her for shit I do sober.
I guess time will tell if being dry works. I wouldn't mind another stint in rehab. That was fun.
