Those are people with typhoid fever. They originals have been found.

I've never been to Europe personally but my sister in law went to one of the Polish concentration camps a couple years ago, and showed me photographs she took of rooms with thousands of shoes and other confiscated items that filled rooms. How do you guys account for that? I would certainly be willing to believe in inflated numbers for dramatic effect, however.
