I know that there are people out there who travel, work second sift, etc. That have very valid reasons why they cannot get to the ballot on election day... and so in general I think early voting and absentee ballots are needed...

...But every year it seems like there is a bigger and bigger push to get people to vote early by days or even weeks. In my mind, if I cast my vote early it dramatically increases the chance that my vote will be tampered with. On election day we have lots of safeguards in place like election observers to help combat election tampering. But now two weeks before the election we have a voting machine sitting in the corner of a town hall where everyone down to the night janitor could fuck with it. Some places have paper ballots in sealed envelopes sitting on some clerk's desk until election day.

It seems like opening the voting window wide also opens the window of opportunity for election tampering. Stinks like a dead fish. Why would anyone trust this or think it is better?

It would explain why it's all over the place now. I don't remember hearing about it as much when i was younger.

I don't like it either. It gives data for political parties to use.

Say I’m a night janitor at a city hall, so I can get this type of access not a very hard job to get and someone with a skill set similar to mine wanted to try something. It doesn’t even require a group one motivated individual could pull it off

Here the push has been for mail in voting. The counties send all registered voters a mail in ballot. Being an older guy, I like that ... but I also see it as prone to major voter fraud. To me, if you don't have enough desire to vote to get up and go to the polls, or if needed, request an absentee mail in ballot, you shouldn't be voting in the first place. I'm all for more people voting, don't get me wrong, but this push just to get numbers to the polls is a fools errand. If you're motivated and want to vote, there's plenty of ways to do so ... if you just don't give a crap one way or the other, stay home, no one will miss you but those who wish to cheat to win anyway.

stuff gets lost in the mail all the time.
