have you seen the prices for rural living? It's as bad as some metro cities, places in my rural area go for 500,000 or more now, and 10 years ago, a housing unit could be had for less than half that.
My town is rural, but on the edge of a minor metro area. Nice homes here start at about $75k. Theres a major fixer upper down the road from me for under $20k. It sucks though, and needs to be gutted or burned down to make room for something new.

That's one thing. The other thing is that they have to deal with all other countries, and they're fully insane. I wouldn't live in any West or East coast city.
