The trauma/damage language is straight from the Gramscian/Freudian synthesis of marxism and psychoanalysis. The man who will not compromise introduces dissonance to the groupthink. Nobody likes stress or conflict and the facilitators make sure to dial up the tension in the the group when someone won't give up their position or values. So the group identifies the lone traditional man as the source of the traumatic conflict and seeks to get him to compromise his values or to remove him from the group. It's the definition of a soviet.
