I have this crazy conspiracy theory that all of the retarded conspiracy theories (lizard people, flatearth, Ufos, etc) were made up to muddy the waters so that actual theories with evidence and facts are dismissed as crazy theories.

Of course they were. Count up all the people you know and how much time they actually spend posting on the internet. Most of them just read and go do something else. There's a dislocation in the numbers. like the voting counts.
