Why would anyone want to follow sharia (literally "law" of God), except if they believe that God is their creator, and it is to Him that they shall return. Look at Bosnia. Huge families. Love of God and fellow man. Look at Malaysia. Look at Turkey.
Also, in Islam there is no priest by which you must commune with your creator.
The Prophet Mohamed, sallahu alayhi wasalam, said definitively in an authentic narration that your creator is always near! And that when you turn back to him in humble and sincere repentance (NO Catholic priest!), He becomes more happy than a man of this story:
A man fell asleep in the desert forgetting to tie his camel, which runs away, and then he becomes frantic and distraught. He falls asleep again waiting for oblivion, only to awake to his camel having wandered back to him. He is so elated that he rhetorically calls himself the master of God (what an extreme thing to say)!
Your creator is more happy with you when you turn back to Him, than this man is to awake to his lost camel.

The Prophet Mohamed sallahu alayhi wasalam said in an authentic hadith (narration/story) that:
It was narrated from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that he said: “I disavow every Muslim who resides among the mushrikeen.”
Mushrikeen means one who disbelieves in Mohamed and his revelation.
