I'm not defending the cops here but the purpose of the 'defund the police' narrative is really about defunding local police so their roles can be filled by feds. As bad as cops are, that would not be good for any of us.

For the most part, my thinking is more about the optics than actually defunding police. If Whites start saying "Defund the police" it sends a pretty ominous message. It's a bit of a lark.
