HIPAA is rules for health care providers. It doesn't apply to the press or private individuals. In other words, if you learn that Nancy Pelosi was diagnosed with Alzheimer's it's not a HIPAA violation for you to report it. It's only a HIPAA violation for her medical provider or the lab to disclose the test result without her permission.
