No social distancing. No masks. No fucks given.

We don’t really do Covid here, but we did Chsitmas and New Years just fine. There was ice skating rinks, funnel cakes, fireworks, trolley rides, games, rooftop Santa, turkey legs, fire pits, a live band, shopping, and fireworks. So many people. The entire down town was packed out and standing room only every night. It’s been a nightly thing for the entire last month.

And you know what? Fucking hell we are taking in the money. We haven’t lost a single storefront during Covid. You see, the state line is just an hour away. Across that imaginary line it’s like East Germany. Our cops directed traffic this weekend while their cops played plague Karen. So their people come to our town instead of quartering their public officials.

Why?

Nah, very little in the south is locked down outside liberal shithole cities. The state health department will come around and whine from time to time. The mayor tells them to fuck off. The Walmart has a mandatory mask sign up that only seems to apply to their employees. If it’s not a chain shop, nobody even pretends anymore. Im not even sure if our city cops own masks at this point, but there are still a lot of normal people who sport them in crowds. The hospital is no more busy this year then last year for flu.

This is true, but I've been around. Segregation seems more...I don't know. Real here? More self selecting. However it comes with a respect that to stranger often afford each other. They stay in their lane and we stay in our. When you cross the unfamiliarity tends to put each of you on better behavior. It's not universal now. This is just in rural small town south. The cities are still shit holes, but there seems to be slightly more of a truce because out here you can still get your ass beat and no DA is gonna do anything about it when you had it coming.
