Honestly, it's a real fear of mine that they fake one. The easiest way to get people to forgot what they are currently fighting is to show them a bigger threat. Convince enough people around the country or even the globe the threat is big enough and they'll start to install overt one world government and all kinds of bullshit. "We have to do X to you so that we can do Y later if the aliens attack again."
