Yeah I always assume the characters and story in any game these days is going to be mega jewed.

This is why I went full weeb and mostly play Asian games. Most recently Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children. Troubleshooter is my GOTY and criminally unknown. Everyone who's played it loves it but that's not very many people.
