The older I get, the more wisdom I see in the approach our ancestors had.
It’s not like women were powerless or raped in the streets back in the 1800s. The ones who were exceptional or very odd found ways to do what they wanted. But for most, society might have coddled them, but it also kept them protected from all the insane decisions that we’re apparently very prone to making.
My grandmother was born in 1891 and died at age 103 a few days short of her 104th birthday. Nobody told this lady what to do. Ever.
Yeah, I don’t think modern women really understand that the social rules of the past weren’t nearly as restrictive as they imagine.
Life may have been more physically demanding, but there was also a clear cut social structure to fall back on. In and of itself, that could be construed as a support system. The overwhelming majority of men wouldn’t let a lady stand on a bus or train, be harassed by other men, or be cold outside. Nowadays it’s just women running through life at full speed, eyes closed with their middle finger in the air as they crash and burn.
Our society has reframed rules and heirarchy as oppressive. From a young age, children are conditioned with stories where a misunderstood hero outsider is ganged up on by bullies for no reason. I realized this the other day with a story about wolf-sayers/witches being publicly executed in Bavaria back in the day. The story is cast as the witch being misunderstood and the mob is just crazy and backward. But people don't kill others and put their bodies on display for no good reason. Maybe the village had a problem with witches, but we're not allowed to know that anymore. So antisocial behavior gets transformed into "differences" that moved from tolerance to celebration.
Fun fact. Most women did not want suffrage. It was forced upon them. To date women have never suffered the societal burdens associated with it. Literally, no people are more privileged than women.
If you care about history, review the following sequence and how they were used to destroy society.
Temperance movement -> (((prohibition-> suffrage -> women's lib -> feminism -> proud whore movement)))
Side note: Jewess is old slang for madam or whore.
