The initial purpose of a lockdown,in my opinion is actually a good idea. Something happens......something serious,be it smallpox,a new form of the plague, be it whatever else. It's spreading fast and it's wreaking havoc everywhere, people are literally,not figuratively,but literally dropping like flies. The country is caught off guard, you lock the shit down,everyone stays home. This in turn buys you time before whatever it is that is attacking the country, truly starts working it's magic. Get all your needed experts,brainstorm the shit out of it, formulate a plan and start working on different procedures, medicine,vaccines,whatever needs to be done. That's it, that is the entire purpose of locking down a country in the normal,not the covid sense,buying time. But that you do only if it's truly serious, this covid is a joke at best. Yeah, I would get it , if this was a new and extreme form of smallpox,more contagious,more deadly and resistant to current treatment.
