You might be a few decades too late. Most of this work will be done in Ukraine and Belarus soon. Now that work from home is the norm there is no reason (for a jew) to hire locals. I work at a tech company in Poland. We pay our junior devs 700 eur a month, and I am constantly being offered "cheap" devs by Ukrainians. That's right cheaper than 700/month. I wouldn't let my kids become programmers.
Higher end programming requires real intelligence. It's not something that any warm body can manage.
Yeah, there are loads of smart Ukranians. The cost of living is much lower there.
I mean here is Poland it's fucking low and we are getting undercut. I have a huge downtown apartment in a major city and I paid 80k euro.
What's the mask 'compliance' rate in your city there in Pol right now?
here in my Canadian city, which has a decent number of poles actually, the rate is very high basically 99% in any public store. And even outside in -15C weather I'd say 90% cult compliance since November.
I agree that Ukranians/Poles/Russians are good coders.
If you're talented though I think there is still a future in the first world for programmers. All the big tech does their real work in rich countries with smart populations - US/Japan/Korea/etc. The coders I knew in college earned the first year out of school in the ranges of $60-120k.
I don't want to compete with coders, I want to found companies and code for startups. I will undercut Filipinos and the Ukraine for equity.
I might have to return to work and mask up, but I also might fuck off to the woods instead.
I have some traditional ideas for making money I will try first, because the coding path is long.
In the end though, I will make it to a remote farm and setup satellite so I won't need to earn much income.
Yeah your gonna work for $700 a month?
Being a founder is cool if you like stress and not having any money for ten years (founder salaries are typically capped). But you should read up about how the VC process works if you are serious about it.
Homesteading is the dream. I am gonna quit as soon as I get 2M euro in the bank, that should be enough to homestead for the rest of my life and fund vanity projects.
While my current focus is coding, I recognize it's analogous to manual labor so the pay reflects that.
What tech jobs provide better pay or passive income? SysAdmin?
Obviously most people can't quit their jobs. I probably shouldn't have.
Sometimes you just gotta say "Fuck it, we'll do it live!".
