Talking to a longtime friend of mine recently, he seemed in good spirits and looked more...youthful.

We had not spoken in several months because of differences in opinions on all manner of topics. I will be the first to admit that I had planned to cut them off, to move on from a multi-decade friendship that had lately become argumentative, burdensome.

After mostly small talk and in the middle of our conversation he drops an admission — “...you were right. No one is dying.”

There it was — the tell of a man moved on from an unnatural fear. A sparkle in his eye and the ability to live once again amongst the normal fears that plague every individual, he toasted to the future and all the uncertainties therein.

I wish for each of you a reconnection with your dismissed loved ones, because today I witnessed a redemption and it gives me hope

I have distanced myself from several people, but not cut them off.

I figure these things take time, more for some than others.

It is because I love them that I give them however much time they need.

Some will figure it out. Some will figure it out faster if you can plant the seed.

Beating them over the head with it generates precisely the opposite effect you want to achieve.

It's like fishing, you have to be patient.

Because I had proved my worth in years past, to expand but counter your sentiment, I took my metaphorical hammer and chisel and beat them mercilessly, handed them the tools and then stepped away and they crafted themselves from the rubble.

When I returned, the work was much better than anything I could have ever hoped to form because they expressed their love for me as reciprocity for my relentless early effort. It’s possible, but one must provide a trod path
