Zero (0) is neutral. It becomes negative if positive numbers exist.
If +1 positive exists, then 0 is negative, so -1 is a logic fallacy.
This means that downvoting is a logic fallacy. It's useless, because it's enough not vote and all the posts with positive votes will automatically make posts with zero votes as negative.
Reddit invented downvoting not because it was useful for users interaction, but because it allows concealed censorship by brigade downvoting. This way any post that goes against their agenda gets simply downvoted in order to disappear from other users sight.
There are also independent trolls who like downvoting just for the hell of it, just to annoy other genuine users who are using the site to seriously interact with other users.
