Four cardinals, cute!
Look at it this way. One day, no matter what, I'm going to be standing before Jesus Christ. He's gonna pull a scroll out and read to me all the things I messed up. I don't want Him to read off "encountered flagrant pagan and didn't even say My name".
By the way, did you know the four cardinal virtues are in the Bible? reads:
And if a man love justice: her labours have great virtues; for she teacheth temperance, and prudence, and justice, and fortitude, which are such things as men can have nothing more profitable in life.
Written in the first century BC, probably in Alexandria, the Book of Wisdom, among the deuterocanonical books, is nonetheless declared by the authority of the Church (at several Councils) to be inspired Word of God. It was considered by Augustine to be canon.
Platonic influence, "baptized" into Christian dogma. I find that fascinating. A shame the Protestants reject the Book of Wisdom - it truly is a wealth of wisdom.
Oh, justice was absolutely the big one for Plato. The locale of Alexandria makes it quite interesting as well.
Clear me up on this. Wisdom would therefore appear in what Bible? My knowledge of the actual books, as in a history of the Bible itself is a massively weak area for me. Protestants consider it apocryphal, but Catholics do not...
I don't want Him to read off "encountered flagrant pagan and didn't even say My name".
That's a good point, but I already know this. I just wanted to give you a hard time. It's not the final sabbath yet. This world is growing dark.
I think Augustine considered Wisdom a part of the Old Testament. I don't think anyone considers it, or any of the deuterocanonical works, part of the New Testament. Open a Douhay-Rheims (Catholic) Bible and you'll find it towards the end of the Old Testament. Protestants don't have it in their Bibles, since Luther (I believe) removed it (as if he had such authority).
Most Protestants today simply inherited Luther's error, without being privy to it. Most, I'm sure, are unaware the deuterocanonical books exist.
