I have that tape. The 35ft stanley tape has a loose end what you see in this picture is the metal end is pushed in out of its normal position. If there where tension on the tape it would pull it into the correct position and the tape would read true.

Ummm dude, they are made to read the same, whether pushed or pulled.

What im saying is the metal end is loose and the tape needs replacement.

you need to think more about it, 3/16 to 1/4 " is missing from first tape. Push and pull is the same, think about it.
