As far as medical, I've never had any luck with it. Even one of my friends that smokes so much I'm surprised he can remember his name told me that the pain killing properties are shit and not to believe any of them.
It does seem to help with severe nausea, but that's not something most people have chronic unless they're being treated for cancer.

Neither, he smokes it because he's a stoner. I know he's got some damaged tendons so he'd probably know if it helped for the pain.

Weed doesn't make pain go away, just makes it a little easier to deal with. It's a brain drug, not a nerve agent like opiates or the *caine drugs (novocaine, lidocain, coke caine etc)
