HR Block wanted $105 for the privilege of filling out a Schedule C where I made next to nothing last year. IRS specifically recommends efiling unless the amount is high enough.

The normal "free" HR Block (and others) won't let you do that. They consider it "small business," whether or not you made any money at all.

So if you do HR Block from the Free File link, it actually works. Otherwise, they'll keep trying to get you to upgrade.

I assumed it would be identical to the "Free Edition" TurboTax and HR Block offer. But it's not, it's a lot more flexible.

I honestly haven't used it(I used turbotax again this year) but I plan to try it out next year.
