I came across a few studies recently on human development and interactions. One that I recall was of a baby human and a baby chimpanzee. They found that rather than the chimp taking on more advanced traits, the human baby took on the traits of the chimp. The best I can recon was that it was because for interaction to occur, the human baby did not operate in areas that chimp did not operate. Also, the chimp had more dominance at the lower level which superseded the tendencies of the human child. This may explain the reason for the Kalergi plan is to lower the social and intellectual stature of western culture.

Anyway, why would intelligent people not have more friends? Consider the chimp and the baby. Also consider that A+ players do not like to lower themselves to lower level intellectual situations and often feel frustrated dealing with stupid people. So, the correlation that intellectuals have less friends because the more friends they have the more they have to lower their intellectual standards. This all may not be on purpose to the intellectuals (i.e. not narcissism or anything), but the social anxiety of this frustration may just make them look for situations where they don't have to do the work to fit in.

Here is a of what I'm talking about.
