Since I'm stuck here I may as well tell a story. Any requests? I know quite a lot of them. You can learn a lot from a story. Even if they aren't true they can give you context.

Gather together and listen you lambs, you ewes, you rams. We're not very smart and we're not very mean (compared to wolves). But we've got each other. Wolves are cowardly creatures, and seek to separate you from the herd. They don't dare go in amongst the flock without their sheep's clothing. And they can't feed in daylight lest the rams see them and see what they are. Wolves feed on weak sheep. Outcast and handicapped, they make what bargains they can to avoid being dinner.

Wolves are so crafty. They sneak around the periphery of the herd in their disguises, studying the herd dynamics. They hatch plots and deceptions to peel sheep away from the herd, it's something of a cultural value of theirs. Because providing resources to ensure the packs survival is a GOOD thing. The more deceptive a wolf is, the higher status he or she is among the pack. It has evolved over eons into a sort of morality. Or worldview. But it is 180 degrees off from that of a sheep.

Sometimes those outcast sheep separated from the herd "go native" in wolf society. Let's call them the "black sheep". It's really kind of sad because the wolves look down on them and laugh at them behind their back. The black sheep forget that they don't have sharp teeth and speed and cunning. The wolves keep them around because they use them for bait. The female black sheep flick their tails in the air or go on videos and lure unwary rams away from the herd for the wolves to consume. Some of the male black sheep pretend to be female. But they all know what they are doing is wrong.

Now, I wasn't told this next part of the story, I'm just guessing it went along these lines somehow. I think at some point in the past a wolf found something. I think it was something a sheep would have gone running from had he found it. Wolves and sheep have different mythologies, different histories, and this finder wolf found something he dimly recognized as something that might be able to let him get all the sheep he wants and never be thwarted by the rams, the shepherd, or the farmer. Ever again.

He took this thing home and they ate of it. But what they didn't know was that there was another creature that fed on wolves and sheep alike. Call it a "rabies virus". The wolves proximity and interactions with the black sheep infected those poor creatures.
