A free and open-source payment gateway/processing software for credit/debit cards that is PCI DSS compliant (or at least can be easily configured to be PCI DSS compliant) would be a huge benefit to many who have otherwise been deplatformed by PayPal and Stripe.

There are all kinds of cryptos...

Indeed, it is great that there's so many cryptos. That being said, many people still use credit and debit cards today. And unfortunately, there's not many options for processors. It's all pretty much dominated by PayPal and Stripe. And you're mostly fucked if you've been deplatformed by them. So that's why I think it would be great to have a free and open-source solution for processing credit/debit cards that could easily be booted up on a VPS, Dedicated Server, or cloud instance and ideally, already PCI DSS compliant out of the box. So that way, creators and businesses don't have to be reliant on third parties to do this.

While I haven't been as involved as I had been in the past, it would be a surprise to me to find out someone isn't at least working on a project that does precisely this in the crypto world...

The only real problem I see with the idea is that any processor interface / API would have to have to be deemed compliant by not only government regulators but by card issuers. Entities that are at lest as progressive in their management as the big 2 you mentioned. I don't know the ins and outs of payment processing, but it does occur to me that it wouldn't take much for a Visa, Master Card, or Diners Club to trace a new processor, research it a bit and "have interfacing issues".

I'm just being a Negative Nancy. I like the idea of a processor that just takes my business even if they don't like me. Much the way I view my clients; do what you want, if you don't cuss directly at me for no reason we're good.

Free payment processor? How would that work? The entire system is filled with interbank fees, interest, and currency cost.

Mastercard, Visa and Amex will just cut you off then.

Indeed. At which point then, it would be trying to figure out ways to make the processing software censorship-resistant. Either that, or you'd be building your own credit/debit card company, which is a whole other huge task and is why crypto like Bitcoin is becoming more popular.

Any central point is a weakness. Even if you created a new CC with huge acceptance, the various governments would strangle you with rules and penalties, perhaps literally if you don't play ball.

Good idea!

Pls create it.

I wish I had the technical skills to be able to program something this. Maybe I could if others helped me with this idea.

Learn to code!

Indeed. I'm planning to take a C++ programming class this semester at my local community college, which hopefully should help. Otherwise, my knowledge extends mostly to CSS and a little bit of PHP and JS from modifying/forking the Twenty Seventeen theme and a couple other plugins.
