The reset needs to happen and congress needs to grow a pair and allow it to happen. Each time they decide to kick the can down the road, they are just making it worse.
What's for sure is that the last thing everyone needs is a nuclear exchange with the US, starting with the US, because make no mistake, russians have slightly more nukes than the US, and china has nukes too, and nobody has an anti nuke shield
And a nuclear exchange is a possible end result of the whole mid east mess, unintended consequences

If they start fucking with iran at this point, iran will likely return fire, israel will likely start to shit its pants and threaten to shoot back with nuclear arsenal. From that point either they go for it or the us go for it for them. From that point, regardless of who fired the shit, china and russia will likely be unable to remain outside of the conflict and that's when shit slides into batshit insane territory
To avoid risking such escalation, drop the mid east entirely, if they want to genocide each others it's their problem
What great "firends" do we have over there? "Best allies" aside? Totalitarian islamic regimes. The world would be a much better place if they weren't empowered by petrodollars and shielded by america no matter what they do, in the first place
If israel didn't have the US to back them no matter what they would be much nicer with everybody overthere, the more you give them the more they act like spoiled bratts
