it seems to me if people are using these laws, its pretty hard to compete with them. since good people aren't willing to use these laws, we should still know about them. to guard against and recognize the people using them. ive bought the book, and am going to post these laws. I figure the path to true success is to do the exact opposite. this book wasn't written out of love and a desire to improve the lives of his fellow man. it was written to destroy.

I've read that book 3 times.

[–] 2 pts

what was your take-away from it?

[–] 2 pts

It pretty well documents how the people generally at the top of society operate. The only reason I read it is I saw it on the book shelf of a particularly wealthy person I was working for. Its pretty fucked up stuff.

[–] 1 pt

oh yes, i fully intend to look for this little chestnut on every bookshelf i see. good keeping an eye out! lots of people out there are suggesting we adopt these tactics. if we were to do that, we'd be them only with less money.

[–] 0 pt

Kek I wouldn't tell him that.
He'll just tell his buddies you're a shill or something.

Heads up.

[–] 0 pt

Well he’d have to ask why I read the thing to know that.

[–] 0 pt

Apparently it wasn't such a tough decision when I mentioned having read it.

This dude freaked out on me at that one site.

anyone have a tl;dr? link or personal opinion?

Edit; sorry I was lazy, it was the first search query result

Edit x2: Good googily moogily, i just had a cursory skim of the above article and it looks like it was written by a sociopath.

Thank you. What is your opinion, definitely worth a full read/listen? or is it a "take it or leave it" sort of recommendation?

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

I would say "take it or leave it" on that one. Instead, look for anything on human biases from people writing about prospect theory (humans are totally fickle creatures). The same author wrote Mastery, and it is very good.

If you really want the full "Machiavellian treatment" consider something like .

Kill or be killed.
There isn't another way. I promise you.

[–] 0 pt

I'm sure Sun Tzu was also a sociopath, right?
You know, since that's what the book is based on.

Read Machiavelli's The Prince and Sun Tzu's Art of War. These are all thought experiments similar to Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, which you should also read.

You can't learn defense unless you first understand offence. Unfortunately, humans are fueled by dopamine, not logic.

I bought "rules for radicals" at the same time that I bought this. ive listened to the audiobook but I like to read at my own pace when dissecting a book. ive also read the art of war but it was a while ago before we were actually at war. I intend to read it again with a new perspective. I haven't read Machiavelli. I've been kind of avoiding his writing because I don't like the idea of manipulating people and I don't want to do it even unintentionally. but I see now I should read all this stuff just to recognize the tactics people use to defend against them.

Machiavelli was not really about being evil. It is a thought experiment and written not as a manual, but as entertainment. Like you are saying, to defend yourself from a psychopath, you must first understand one ... which in a way requires a bit of a mental + emotional journey. This is what you get with Machiavelli. It's an awareness manual. One could easily have written it in a boring, academic stance but it wouldn't have had the same punch to it.

Consider the link I gave LinkedForever in the other comment for a real awareness manual (the protocols audio analysis).

thank you! good stuff to chew on!

[–] 1 pt

tfw we have to explain this to normies

It's like pulling teeth, I swear.
I get it, I should be more patient, but holy niggers... it's not like I put a lot of effort in to the perspective I've developed or anything.

Read it, was meh.

Don't trust anyone. Remember that everyone can and will lie. And most importantly, shut the fuck up. If you keep your mouth shut, you'll learn everything without giving away anything.

[–] 0 pt

great advice! unfortunately that doesn't seem to be something i'm able to do.

The book Mastery by the same author is excellent.

[–] 1 pt

the only person I want to master is myself.

[–] [deleted] 1 pt (edited )

That's kind of what the book Mastery is about, actually. He discusses the trials and tribulations great masters have on their way to success. Much better than 48 laws, which was just "meh" IMHO.

There's an audiobook version floating around pootube. You can listen to it when you're doing squats. :)

naw, i'm taking my time with this one. it actually has great information and principles to live by, if you do the exact opposite as it advises.

[–] 0 pt

Which is why you should read the book.
Are you just trying to piss people off or something?

[–] 0 pt

maybe i like to piss people off. everybody needs a hobby.

Fighting fire with fire is literally the only option there is.

le schitzo

Hello, every shill ever on the internet.

[–] 0 pt

becoming the enemy is losing with extra steps.

[–] 0 pt

That's exactly what I mean.
YOU are your enemy. No one else matters.

[–] 0 pt

care to elaborate? my enemies are those who impose their will on others. I'm only your enemy if that describes you.
