My dear nephew is 25. He went to agricultural college and prior to that, got a mechanics qualification.
He's been managing a huge farm up North for a few years and lives for farming, hunting, etc. Comes from a long line of farmers. Loves working the land.
For a few years now, I've been trying to make him see that there's no future for him in SA. He said he would "never" leave, plus he is very close to his grand dad (an avid hunter and farmer) and his parents. I understand all these things, but I want him to have a family and experience what "normal life" is like outside of a country where everything is against you and you are under constant threat of a terrorist attack.
The farm he currently manages is sublime, no phone signal, ostriches, goats, (agri crops as well), mountains, land that stretches on forever, a caring Boer boss. Boss has had this land in the family for hundreds of years - they still have the family graves on the farm and the inscriptions on the headstones are in Dutch. He treats my nephew like a son. My nephew manages a huge operation all on his own, lots of responsibility. So it's hard to walk away from that. So many young white kids will never work in SA because of racist employment laws. He's been lucky, he finished agri college on a Friday and started his first job on the Monday.
Anyway, I've been chipping away and chipping away and finally.....Imagine my delight when he messaged me this morning to tell me he's busy doing the paperwork for a work visa for USA. He won't be going for a year or so, but I'm so happy his mindset has changed. I have high hopes that he'll meet a nice young conservative American, get married, stay there and have lots of white babies.
He's done the calculations and for a menial farming job in USA with no responsibility, he will triple his SA salary which involves managing a team and a massive piece of land.
