>You may hold in your hand the power to remake all things, but if you do not know what you would change, then you hold nothing at all.

My mates 30th was at the start of the month and since I had got him into the Heresy books, I thought why not enable his plastic crack addiction with the main Chad from his favourite legion.

I managed to get an old (1996) Ahriman model of a trade site and it was pretty gnarly looking

So into a methylated spirits bath, followed by a white spirit bath and vigorous scrubbing with a toothbrush to get the old, I want to say enamel paint, off. Took about a week to tidy it all up but we got there.

Primed up everything with my Tamiya Fine Grey rattle.

When I started(reatarted) the hobby, I told my Mrs, I wasn't actually getting back into the hobbies, just a few paints and brushes and no new models With the exception for this one since it's a gift right?

So with that promise, I had to invent some colours e.g. I mixed Vallejo Heavy Red and Vallejo Royal Purple to get the burgundy colour for the base coat.

Added a bit more purple and a bit of black for the shades in the recessed areas. And a bit of Vallejo Wolf Grey to make the material highlights.

Everything that was going to end up gold I base coated with Mournfang Brown, then a layer of Tamiya X12 Gold with another wash of Mournfang Brown.

The book I base coated Heavy Red.

Once I was happy with the cloak, I moved onto the armour which is a blackish-bluish-green. I mixed Vallejo nigger Negro, which seems to have green pigments in it, with my old Citadel Enchanted Blue, about 60/40.

I blacked the pipes and dry brushed some Wolf Grey on them, and with the grey I added a stripe on the colour which I add blue detailing. And with mixing Enchanted blue with Vallejo White to highlight, I did the eye gem on his belt and added some X12 gold dots on the blue collar

On to that fantastic helmet (download.monin.net) of his. Base everything mournfang brown and the horns I mixed black into the brown to give it that nutty colour. I used this to base the eyes and the face plate split and the skulls also. Nice and simple.

Again, painted the X12 gold over the Mournfang Brown, and gave it a nice wash with the brown to give it depth.

I mixed Flayed One Flesh and a tiny bit of Vallejo white to make a boney colour and dry brushed the ridges of the horns. I dry brushed the skulls with this colour too, then watered down the base layer to darken the recesses.

I darkened enchanted blue with a bit of black to add colour to the eyes and mind's eye, and the worked my way to a highlight of the blue and white to give it a pale glow.

I also painted the helmet straps with enchanted blue and edge highlight with the pale blue colour.

Like an absolute rookie I did no before and after of the staff (imgbly.com) , but essentially it's the steps above: mournfang brown, X12 gold, brown wash. X11 silver (enamel paint - gasp!?!), Wash of black. Enchanted blue with grey-blue edge highlight on the straps and eye gem and power dot. Brown-black base, flayed one flesh-white bone drybrush on the skulls. Black-grey base, lighter mix of black-grey layer, wolf grey highlight on the bag.

Glue all the pieces together. Boom.

I finished off the gun (download.monin.net) and added gem stone with black-red to red to grey-red with white highlight.

I also found with my other models (Imrik and co, WIP) I was losing paint from chipping, so I got some matt varnish spray and coated Ahriman at this point, and my Emperor's champion too.

Now time for the base. I wanted something cool like how I made the marble stairs for my  Emperor's Champion (download.monin.net) and in theme with this Ahriman, which is post heresey, so I thought something warpy would be cool.

I got an old base (non slotted) and caked it in black paint, I added some enchanted blue, royal purple and Vallejo pixie pink to it and swirled it around. It was kind of cool, however I set it aside and unbeknownst to me, it was on an angle so when I checked on it the colours had bled and looked to one side  which was actually pretty cool in itself. I left it on a flat surface and let this dry.

Happy little accidents.

I grabbed a piece of bark from the garden, and with a rotary tool, carved away at it so I could add the base support sprue into it.

I added milliput in the gaps and painted it with a mix of black and pva to set it and left it over night

I dry brushed it with Wolf Grey and at the bottom, dry brushed Royal Purple and Pixie Pink

I glued Ahriman to his base and it was finally done.

No more distractions, I will only work on my diorama piece now!
