Hope everyone is having a fine Easter break and celebrating the rebirth of our good lord Jesus Christ.

40000 years later we are still crusading to purge the universe from heretical filth.

Today I give to you my favourite model from 3rd/4th edition(?):

The metal Emperor's champion

Here's the wtf version (pic8.co) I painted 20ish years ago.

I think I was trying to make my own chapter like the Black Templars but with homage to Imperial Fists

https://pic8.co/d/9043c534-bff4-46d3-89f2-6e2d564736ae.jpg

I exterminatus'd that abomination and thought I'd give it new life.

I don't have all the steps cause I didn't think I was going to photo it all/minimize the lengthy posts I've done previously, however, a day in nail polish remover to get it back to metal and a prime of Tamiya fine grey we were ready to go.

I started layering my black (Vallejo Negro lol) and used my OG citadel Dark Angels Green for the wreath

https://pic8.co/d/1108d0f1-3415-4c56-aaf5-3476200febe2.jpg

Once finished with my negro, I cast it aside and based the cloth and any gold bits with Mournefang Brown

https://pic8.co/d/4721351b-d60f-4c18-a896-bdb8fd527703.jpg

https://pic8.co/d/f0c4223e-8d6d-4a4d-b134-08e242182d2c.jpg

https://pic8.co/d/d7d01d99-3c72-4e4b-88b7-9f517fab1051.jpg

With brown down, moved on to a gold base layer with a wash of mournfang brown to dirty the gold down make it less shiny but still gold

https://pic8.co/d/fb8fefc7-3556-4b80-875e-7aa4e672b105.jpg

Now this next bit was a real flex for me, I had never done shaded areas like cloth before (first time painting in actually 20 years) I had seen many videos on how to do.

The key is patience and thinned paint. I went from Mournefang Brown to a Flayed One Flesh. With those two I just blended my own colours to get the transition effect

https://pic8.co/d/df7cc57c-f93b-4c7d-8642-5a3f29e65a32.jpg

Was also first time doing gems properly too, turned out way better than expected

https://pic8.co/d/b4dae115-6d07-48a5-a118-437738d66d09.jpg

On to the sword, which I left til last cause I had an idea of what I wanted to do with lightning effect (spoiler, I couldn't pull it off) base coat black.

Ended up greying the letters and adding scratches to the blade

https://pic8.co/d/173c6943-a7a1-4d1a-9221-ff8530c63f56.jpg

The next thing I was hesitant about was the battle standard. I had grand ideas of doing some freehand but I couldn't think of what so just did the Templar cross

Will revisit it later maybe

Aaaand the base, which I swear I had seen an image of, marble stairs, but I couldn't find it again for reference so I made my own up

Badda bing Bada boom!

That's all brothers, back next time with the Prince Imrik diorama.
