I remember reading something years ago about Russia warning NATO against expanding to close to its borders. There was even a deal made to remove Russia from East Germany years ago. Part of the deal was that NAT0 wouldn't expand near them. However, I an glad Russia removed itself from East Germany at least.

That was the Soviet Union. Those who ran the Soviet Union were not Russians. The Russian people threw them out in the 1980's.

You are correct. It was still the Soviet Union. However, it is Russia and NATO did agree not to expand too close to their borders.
