They were poor but they built a beautiful farm out of almost nothing. He didn’t know he was poor because he really wasn’t, he had a dad who could build things and survive when all the odds were against him. And the dad had a favorite hammer, I enjoyed that part.

So I recently visited my Aunt and Uncle in Michigan, and my uncle displayed this film to me.

And I do think this is a beautiful film. It really is.

But my Aunt and Uncle are very well-to-do East Coast Liberals, despite neither being from the East Coast.

My Aunt came from the Hollers of Eastern Kentucky, and my Uncle (not blood related) was the product of Armenians emigrating to Detroit.

But they live in an area of Michigan that is very similar to the place in Iowa.

It was so scenic and not-settled, it was unsettled until the value of the land became apparent.

Just fucking weird.
