they're all built like faraday cages

It's not that they're shield, it's that electricity will take the path around the aluminum frame, to the ground. They've been designed that way for decades. There have been rare cases of "ball lightning" on some airlines.

Interesting the lightning strike appears to go through the rocket but doesn't follow the trail of emission back to the launching pad. I wonder what it hit.

Not altogether surprising. It’s going to look for the most efficient path to the ground; if there was a structure taller than the launch structure, it would have gone there.
