It's like saying BHO is unsafe because of the butane. But as long as you purge properly, then there shouldn't be any significant residue in the oil itself.

No ordinary human has access to 100% pure C4H10 (n-Butane)... BHO is not safe. Do you know what butane is? It is a combination of petroleum and natural gas. Butane is also relatively viscous as a liquid and needs to be "thinned" in which case companies use either neopentane or hexane. Both are carcinogenic. So how safe do you really think that 0.01% is? And how often do you smoke it? Add that up over some years of use...

Super critical extraction , a heated press, or hash are the ONLY ways to get a pure and safe marijuana extract without leftover byproducts.

I don't use BHO personally, though again, I don't see much risk as long as it has been properly purged. Though I do have several different strains of supercritical CO2 hash oil (lab tested) and Raw RSO (lab tested) which have been serving me well. The terp profile is strong on both.

I think it's more about preparation methods versus solvent choice. Though I think we can both agree that it's best to avoid Naphtha or anything similar.
