It's not capitalism. Those buildings are the product of regulation, unionization, political grifting, etc.
It is capitalism. It would cost more to fully rehab an old custom built brick building than it would to just tear it down and slap a steel frame block in its place. A pretty rounded front, a cool spire, and a bunch of relief work, adds costs, and reduces square footage, driving up prices for the end users of the buildings. Unless youre dealing with really really high end projects for really wealthy individuals you wont see that kind of work done anymore, because the end buyers dont want to pay for it.
Disagree. It's capitalism, don't know why people are afraid to admit capitalism has some flaws
