Did you see the 100lb propane tank spinning in the right lane, lots of fire coming from the base? I don't understand how that came off the truck. The hydraulics for the compactor would be on the top that hit the bridge. Apparently ripped open a gas line under the bridge.

Explosion seems to come from truck once it's on the other side of the bridge. Also I would think a gas line would keep burning persistently until turned off.

check the upper left of the bridge in the video you can see the pipe flaring and not dying down.

Yea, that could be a gas line. I was thinking that was the garbage truck on the other side of the bridge still burning.

No one is stupid enough to run a gas line underneath that bridge. The explosion is most likely from the trucks fuel source which is compressed natural gas.

When it first hit I was disappointing by the minimal explosion.

The second cheapest and quickest fix is to reroute the subsurface pipeline to about 30 feet or so from the bridge and then lower the road. You have to ensure good drainage. The cheapest and fastest way is to put no truck signs along the road and the diversion routes.

Signs don't work. Take the example of the 11 Foot 8 bridge in Durham. It's quite famous, has blinking lighted signs telling trucks they are over height, and they still run through it. It was raised, but there are still plenty that test the laws of physics.

There were a number of bridges like this in a city near where I grew up, they had pipes hanging down before the bridge in a windchime-type fashion. You try to go under the bridge, your truck ends up with gouges which is better than having the top peeled, I guess.

Even if you manage to keep the trucks away, you'll still have the jackasses pulling campers or driving uhauls and RVs that will pay zero attention to the height signs.

Garbage trucks use compressed natural gas in cylinders for their fuel. They aren’t diesal. That’s where the explosion came from.

I'm thinking he died from the concussion of the explosion. He probably knew he hit the bridge and by they time he thought Oh Fuck he was dead.
