I firmly think we need to annex 1mile of Mexico along the border. On the US side of said border, begin digging "The Great American Canal that can fit three freighters. Mound the dirt on the American side making an earthen rampart, with a ship port in the middle. Behind this construct freight railways. Seed land mines on the rest of the mile of new American territory.
Charge fees to use the canal, and all incoming freight is subject to a 10% tariff.
This is the best logical solution. Then place warning signs about the fatal night vision/movement detection, heavy caliber auto turrets mounted along the canal for the illegals trying to swim in, also have a fortified wall at the edge of our southern border as well as their side.
