Do you ever do anything fun that only lasts a couple hours and costs a bit of money?
If you never treat yourself to anything enjoyable, then that’s really the only excuse I can sorta understand. Getting the family together and preparing some high quality food and wine makes up a significant portion of my best memories. I have more vivid recollection of that dinner with my father than any grocery store thanksgiving feast I’ve ever had, and very few events — amusement parks, hiking/camping trips, shows, etc etc — even compete.
It’s okay to treat yourself every once in awhile, I’m not saying your fridge should be permanently stocked with Foie Gras and Montrachet, but I am saying that not eating high end food every day isn’t really an excuse for not knowing that your food isn’t high end
Huh. My memories aren't connected to the cost of commodities present. My best memories are of good times with friends and family. I never gave any consideration to material things that were there.
When it comes to food and drink it's usually the law of diminishing marginal returns at work. Yes, a dry-aged USDA Prime ribeye is better than a ribeye fresh sliced off a rib roast, but it's not 10 times better. I prefer 10 great steaks to 1 spectacular steak.

Neither are mine. Quality isn’t necessarily related to cost, but you have to be able to understand that it often is. If a farmer raises fewer cattle on higher standards and spends more time improving the quality of the meat after slaughter, then of course its going to be better than a farmer who crams as many cows into as small a space as they can while feeding them trash from troughs and spends as little time as possible with the meat after slaughter.
It should also be obvious that the first farmer would need to charge more for that meat to remain profitable for their investments in land and time, which means their final product is more expensive.
The fact that good meat is more expensive is purely incidental, but for some reason the cost is what you’re choosing to focus on.

It also shouldn’t be difficult to understand that moods are likely to be lifted if everyone is enjoying something of high quality versus just stuffing down whatever meat someone threw on a grill. Higher enjoyment of the “things” would obviously lead to higher enjoyment of the time and company present, even if you never remember the “things” that made it that way.
For sure conversation and positivity would be higher during a camping trip with quality tents and sleeping bags than during one where the tents leaked and everyone felt cold while trying to sleep. Why would it be any different going to an amazing dinner versus a meh one?

Arguable.

Again, I’m not saying every meal you eat has to be prepared by a Michelin chef using specially-sourced ingredients. But certainly there’s nothing wrong with enjoying 1 spectacular steak for every 10 Costco steaks you enjoy. There’s also nothing wrong with enjoying 100 Costco steaks without ever eating a single spectacular steak, but you should still be able to recognize that your Costco steaks are much closer in quality to whatever steak you were trying to talk shit about in the first place than it is to an actually high quality steak
