We are definitely in the Age of Decadence, it's just a question of how long until the collapse.

"Without an overarching guiding ideal or moral core, there exists widespread disorientation, confusion, and moral decay. The masses live empty and meaningless lives from which they seek relief by drowning themselves in base pleasures, developing addictions, and by adopting escapism as a way of life."

"People grow increasingly incapable of distinguishing between true and false, good and bad, right and wrong, and so they often choose what is life-denying and harmful. Beauty and genius are renounced in favor of banality, ugliness, and vulgarity. Virtues are seen as vices, and vices virtues. The process of individuation and pursuit of greatness is abandoned in favor of an apathetic conformity. And as a result, mental illness becomes the norm."

A lot of people think collapse will be a gradual process. It wont. It will be immediate and as chaotic as you can imagine. Centralization and dependence on infrastructure will ensure that once the supermarket runs out of food all order will collapse.

We lack the localized support structures required to prevent such an outcome. Banditry will prevail until enough people die such that the resources equalize with the population numbers. It will take at least one full growing season, most likely two, and that assuming water availability.

Those in more rural areas will discover many newcomers wandering into their area in search or resources and hungry enough to take it by force.
