I feel like the warning label says a lot of things obvious, but probably doesnt explicitly say to keep your gigantic stockpile of chinese flashy bangers at a safe distance.
I noticed a few days ago that the fireworks nowadays have the fuse laminated down to the box, so you have to pick them out behind heavy plastic.
Which is a good idea. I wonder when that was instilled. When I was a young chap, the fuses were right there ready to light or maybe behind some masking tape.
Also, when did roses get cut in half, time-wise? They're kind of lame now. They used to spin around like bandits, the whole street was on weary watch, one might jump at you at any given moment - always bouncing under a car or something else, errant. Also sparklers are done in like 30 seconds now. As a kid I remember playing with it for like eons, the whole alphabet twice. Firework inflation?
Safe and Sane policies went into effect for a lot of brands but I forget what year. I remember buying M-80 salutes and then one year we couldn't get them and the replacements were terrible. I honestly like the mini fireworks but I've been on a small things kick lately (building a tabletop bowling alley and putt putt golf for my wife and son).

I remember from when I was a kid it always said to keep the box closed and in a safe place, and only light one at a time. and we had HSE warning adverts on TV about exploded fingers every year, and the media did the same. I'm not sure they bother any more, but they did end up restricting stuff like bangers I've not seen any Catherine wheels for years either
The fuse idea is a good one
The whole thing is really expensive now, which is a shame as kids used to gatecrash everyone's little backyard shows for free hot potatoes, now it's all organised displays
When I was a kid, we used to mine the beach and blow up American GIs trying to take Iwo Jima. Now it's all sparkle and no explosive power.
the monetization of everything...especially leisure. when I say monetization I mean " has been enveloped into the tax and power game.
In the 90's I would spend $200 to have a decent sized stash for birthdays , new years and various other celebrations. I stopped getting them a few years back as I just can't justify the cost today. It's literally just setting your money on fire for a few seconds worth of enjoyment .
