What? My Tai chi sword is 10lbs, swing that around for 10 minutes and tell me how your body feels.
Most swords are 1-1.5 lbs, big long two hand swords can come in at 3lbs.
Ten pounds is nothing, but there is this thing called leverage. With your arm stretched out 5 feet, you are now essentially holding 50lbs.
I have sword
I have another one I bought from a blacksmith on Etsy just for fucking around with. Something to trash on logs and take camping. It's a langmesser.

I haven't joined a Hema gym, yet.
But I've been practicing my Meyers square and different stances with a wooden long sword.
I've been working out for 12 years, and training martial arts for 7 years off and on, so I know how my body mechanics work. I still need a coach to tell me what I'm doing wrong, but I think I have the basic movements down.
Some days I'll do a steel mace workout and long sword drills with footwork. It's a fun mix up for sure.
