They made them use a screen AS SCHOOL for over a year. And they expect to get attentive listeners after that? Let the kid play with her texting app, the school sure as fuck isn't teaching them anything worth learning at that point.
We make school mandatory for far too long. It ought to be 100% voluntary after the 8th grade. If they haven't learned the basics by then then they never will. And lower the ages on those child labor laws and allow people to get work legally as young as 14 years old.
Our culture has stifled and infantilized older children and young adults too much in some crucial ways. In our own society's history there are men who got their start in their chosen careers in their early teens. That used to be when a young man started learning a trade, sometimes in an apprenticeship. It was definitely when young men went to sea for the first time, or joined their first big cattle drive.
They're doing things backwards inour society with regards to kids-- Instead of protecting kids from adult sexual predators, they're feeding kids to them, and instead of preparing kids to have productive adult lives, they're teaching them to be Forever Kindergarten Kids.
Well stated and accurate describing our continuing decline into chaos.
