It encourages a child like perspective on the world, one where everyone plays fair, learns from their mistakes and assumes the best about others, because others will also play fair, learn from their mistakes and ALSO assume the best about you. The purpose of this messaging is to lower our firewalls and allow unfiltered propaganda into our minds.

The reality of this situation is that the nanites would not have spared any human on the ship because they did not need them in any respect and would have kept on growing until some natural equilibrium was reached. Also, Data was basically infected with a literal virus and his entire operating system now must be reinstalled from scratch and all the service packs re-applied sequentially.

The problem here isn't that this is a ludicrous story designed for children. The problem here is that this was deliberately designed to lower the firewalls in our childrens brains and allow them to absorb propaganda unfiltered.

Yes, agreed. When I used to be a star trek fan watched original series air live in the 60's as a child and I was personally changed. I thought I had true wisdom watching this show but in fact it kept me from believing the real world we live in is dirty and quite evil at times and I kept myself from realizing, refused to realize that it was a trap for globalist control. Star Trek still keeps naive adults believing that a military "Enterprise" controlled system can be all about peace and equality when in fact if will be slavery and more control and less happiness even with the most modern tech since the top will be filled by narcissist and greedy men that only got there from the drive of totally controlling everyone and thing around them. Yes it's a trap for sure. You can start with a loving leader and end with an evil one a few years later and they rule till they die or are taken out.

I think it can still be watched as a vision of what in general we could be, without crippling diversity. It is true that it's the military, clothed as exploration. There are higher-ups, politics, etc.

The idea is ridiculous anyway. People don't realize how much of what seems the basic fabric of things is just a reflection of the particular type of life-form we are, and thus aren't shared by others. Essentially all perception is there to form actions, and all action is to further our basic goals as life-forms. It's baked into every nuance of things. Even abstract thought, which might seem separated, is still deeply rooted in these goals and how we evolved.

These Nanites wouldn't be able to communicate like this at all, or make any sense of us, or us them. Of course Star Trek is a human drama, illustrating human dilemmas in ways we can emotionally relate with (further example of the above of everything we do being bathed in our way of doing things). I can't fault ST for this. It's a human drama set in space.
