There are so many of them now on the planet, that only a small portion of them need to go chenobyl to make the planet unlivable for all of us permanently.
Yep! Or the flooding may be so intense and thorough as to extinguish the generated heat and dissipate the radiation to manageable levels. Or not enough and our DNA is altered much like as is quasi explained as a reason for sudden changes or beginnings and endings of species as a result of super nova events.
