I was surprised to see that it would lay on its back and expose its belly, especially being a wild cat. I used to have three housecats and they would never willingly expose the gut.

Well, they did in every other respect. The two boys absolutely loved me. One of them would inadvertently lie on his back to wrestle with me. But only in that scenario, never just to be petted.
