One thing about these world fair structures -- they were built with the intention of tearing them down within a few months. They didn't need to be built well, they just needed to look good from a distance. They are like Disney's castle. They probably only finished what they absolutely had to finish.

They built faster in the past than they do today. A lot faster. The Empire State Building is a good example. It was built in 1 year, 45 days. We can't even imagine a building like this being built in only a little over a year.
