This is like the squirrels here ad my place. Between about eight to ten o'clock in the morning, I'll open the door and say "does anyone want a peanut?". In about 5 seconds you can see them come down the big tree in our yard and head for the porch. We let them come in the house a couple of feet and then hand them a peanut, then they go out and bury it somewhere.
This is actually really interesting.
We have the Fox squirrels here which are not really native (Northwest Washington State). I think they were imported from the southeast. They will live up to 20 years in captivity, but only 8 to 10 in the wild.
