Unless there was already another queen already in the hive that’s about the only reason they would attack a new queen.
They will sometime even attack a new queen when they are queenless with a laying worker. It's all about pheromones with bees. Never forget that will living creatures you can usually predict what they will do but they will do things their way.

I evidently didn’t make myself clear. I agree a laying worker is probably the cause of the attack on the queen.
