Metal recycling is very beneficial. Other types of recycling grow less productive the further away from metals a person gets.

Can be and economically cost effective are too different things. Recycling and the TSA was Obama's big employment run. Both jobs programs of no value.
Recycling is heavily subsidized. A clear indicator it's not economically feasible. Largely aluminum and steel are the best items to recycle. Paper is a borderline maybe. Plastic in general is a nope.
Most recycling simply gets tossed into the dump anyways.
